Musings from Lonestar State: “I’m missing you, CDO”
Lapasan, Bulua, Capistrano, Corrales, Cogon
these are but some of the places which gives you tone
‘Tis the place where my mom was born
the sanctuary where my kids have grown
I miss sitting lazily on my veranda
Watching the sunset say goodbye; saying “I luv ya”
I can smell mom’s afternoon coffee and ensaymada
while dad fixes his hair with his pomada
My mouth waters for banana cake at Kairo and Rocket
My love used to offer me that instead of a bracelet
Life was simple, sizzling, and exciting
Life was just easy, you can hear the birds’ singing
They say you’ve found a sanctuary
You can stay inside in solitary
At St. Augustine cathedral, “pray for us”!
A politician cried, “The bishop is against us”
Now that I am here in Lonestar State
A place I might easily forget
For you Cagayan de Oro sits on the gate
Reminding me, “I must come home before it’s too late!”

I dedicate this poem to all you guys who stayed in CDO. I would like to commend you for your enthusiasm to serve CDO in spite of all the challenges you are facing right now. I encourage you to continue helping CDO the way we want the world to know it to be. I made this poem during our poetry sessions with my 9th grade students.
This one is for you CDOKAY Staff…Mabuhay kayo!
Sincerely,
Ms. Thelma Macas
