Really, the City Hall is all ears for your voices.
There is this very promising news — yes, for showing a lot of promise! — released by the City Information Office.
It reads: The city’s top businessmen vowed to pool their resources for the common cause of promoting Cagayan de Oro City as a globally-competitive and investment-conducive city.
During the meeting, the group agreed in principle to acquire a tourist bus; organize a trade mission to China; assist schools to design globally-competitive education programs; hold a water summit in December and an environmental summit in January next year.
The said roundtable discussion basically aims to help the administration of Mayor Jaraula in crafting a support system that will enhance local governance and help the city achieve greater heights of progress and development.
Endorse or oppose
In another interesting news, the city government is calling on all sectors in Cagayan de Oro to share their technical expertise and views in a bid to come out with a firm decision as to whether endorse or oppose the construction of the proposed 132-megawatt Bulanog-Batang hydro power plant in nearby Talakag, Bukidnon.
“We are trying to solicit facts and opinions from the different sectors or groups in our society so that the city government could come up with a solid basis for our stand,” says City Councilor President Elipe, chairman of the city council’s committee on energy.

It’s good to hear that were leading towards global-competitiveness and citywide improvement, and that we the people of Cagayan de Oro are now given the chance to voice out more on these issues.
Talking about being competitive, I believe we should start with developing a good image as a city first. We all know that we are not that big of a city, but count the vehicles or public transportation and you’ll realize that there’s something wrong. The traffic is like impossible to fix and people are becoming undisciplined.
I have a suggestion which I hope would be taken into consideration.
I’m talking about changing some ways to help traffic (which by the way almost always the first thing that the visitors in our city will notice), specially the problem with the Loading and No loading signs. As you can see, it’s usually placed in a post with a sign and it stand vertical and just about any driver, i f reprimanded, would say that they were not able to see the sign because another vehicle has covered it, or a group of people were and this becomes a habit. I’m not just blaming the drivers, but also the people who would stop a Jeepney anywhere, and drivers don’t really have a choice but to stop coz it’s P6.00 atleast already.
But what if we change the signs. Or better yet, instead of placing poles in the road, why not make a Loading Zone indicated by a very clear colored paint in the road which is easily visible for both the drivers and the commuters. This way, it can’t be moved, they will be oriented and remember what the color and zone means, and they would always remember where it is. And pleeeeeeease be strict in giving tickets or fines to both drivers and commuters. I guess they’ve been warned long enough to give them another warning. But it’s important to take into consideration the range of the zone to comply with other city laws and to be able accommodate a fair number of public vehicles.
Suggested colors: Green or light green (murag RTA)

I think we are globally competitive in terms of education, with companies and foreign institutions choosing Filipino workers as top on the list in hiring workers! One case in point are our skilled workers who I discovered are graduates of TESDA , we met some of them here in Texas. They work in Oil companies as welders and “pipe experts”.In Cagayan de Oro, what we need is an honest to goodness development plan for more economic activities that will generate jobs for our equally talented and skilled workers. If the Hydropower Plant can help boost our economy and if we can ensure its proper use then GO FOR IT CAGAYAN! Politics is good but we need action!
